Patriots

No, not a post about the civil war in Iraq or anything like that.
As an alumnus of George Mason University, that's G.M.U. for short, I am especially sensitive to people who make mistakes about school names or identities. For example, I remember a time when someone said, "Oh Bob, you went to... James.... Mason.... University, right?"

It was usually someone confusing G.M.U. with J.M.U., James Madison University, which is also in Virginia but it is Harrisonburg, VA - about 3 hours away.

I'm not going to be too hard on people. After all, aside from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA there is Georgetown University, G.U., in DC and George Washington University, G.W.U., also in DC. I've never known anyone to confuse Randolph-Macon College with anything.

Here's the point of the post though. HI-larious, but also a bit maddening.

On the local NPR affiliate this morning, the news anchor was relating a few of the local college basketball scores. "Last night it was Georgetown over George Mason.... sorry, that's James Madison, 89-53." What the heck was this guy looking at? He's reading the news, right? And he still makes the confusion?
